Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

More commencing students at Uni 

CQUniversity has reported a 3% increase in overall offers for Term 1 2009 among new Domestic Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, compared to the same period last year.

There has also been an overwhelming demand for CQUniversity Access Programs (STEPS, WIST, LIFT and TEP). The University forecasts an overall demand in Access programs of about 20% in 2009 compared to 2008.

In addition, CQUniversity has offered approximately 11% more Postgraduate places than last year.

Term 1 Domestic Undergraduate offers slipped about 6% over 2008.

Enrolment of new international students is approximately 23% higher than Term 1 last year.

The University expects by the end of this month that it will have enrolled about 4500 new students (International and Domestic)  at all levels in Term1.

Some of the most popular programs, overall, are Nursing - especially among Distance Learners - Construction Management, Building Design and Surveying & Certification, Human Movement Science, Social Work, Property and Occupational Health & Safety.

Education or Learning Management programs remain popular choices among school leavers, as are Engineering, Nursing, Human Movement Science, Biomedical Science, Psychology and Building Design programs.
