Graduate writes and directs kids' show

Performing Arts graduate Jessica Havens has written and directed an original show for students of the Bel Canto Singing and Music Academy, based in the Rockhampton district.

The Bedbugs production at Bel Canto Studio showcased the talents of Bel Canto's drama students aged between 5 and 9 years.

Jess has been working as a drama teacher for Bel Canto and spent 10 weeks preparing her students for the new production.

Meanwhile, Jess also worked with an older drama group -  mostly aged between 13-16 - who presented a play called 7evens Circus.

Jess wrote the play based on the 'seven deadly sins' concept, but with a circus theme.

"It's a comical play portraying the 7 deadly sins, but at the same time showing the severity of them. We had a total of 35 friends and family attend the show and student Amelia Vivash won the 'most improved award' for the year."
