CQU Sydney academic attends NZ law teachers conference

CQU Sydney academic Michael Nancarrow recently attended a conference for the Australasian Law Teachers Association in Hamilton, New Zealand.
Mr Nancarrow wanted to have the chance to present some ideas and experience from delivering legal education to post-graduate international students.
He was also interested in attending because the “law in non-law schools” group scheduled a debate to change its name to have a broader participation (because it is part also of management and professional tertiary curricula).
To attend the conference, Mr Nancarrow took some time out from his PhD study on the regulation and governance of community housing and the impact of contractualisation in the provision of welfare services.
Mr Nancarrow spoke about the link between the theme of one law for all and legal education for international students.
The conference also provided the opportunity to identify the challenges and opportunities of navigating the requirement to maintain high academic standards within a commercialised operational environment, which is the unique experience of CQU's Australian international campuses.
The presentation was concluded by introducing the notion of the law teacher as a wounded story teller.
Michael said his paper was well received at the interest group session.
