Year 12 students visit Gladstone Campus
Published on 08 April, 2005
Fifty-five local high school students recently spent a day at Central Queensland University Gladstone campus to learn a little more about life at university.
The students from Tannum Sands State High School attended a day of lectures, tutorials and information sessions.
CQU Community Relations Officer, Shannon Law said the day was a hands-on approach designed to allow the students to investigate their study options for 2006.
“The students also participated in a careers planning session where we asked them to be very proactive in the coming months as they made their study choices.
“CQU offers many activities and information sessions throughout the year for students, parents and anyone else interested in learning more about what’s on offer at their local university.
“Students make a lot of important decisions in year 12 and it is essential that they are given opportunities such as this to enable them to make informed choices,” said Ms Law Students chose to attend a number of lectures and tutorials that covered topics such as media and communication industries, engineering, marketing, learning management, nursing and human movements.
The participants were also introduced to the video conferencing style of teaching used by CQU which allows students and staff across campuses to interact with each other using cameras and microphones. Other high schools in the region will participate in similar events throughout the year.
