Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

CQU applicants shortlisted for Women in Technology scholarships 

At least two CQU applications for Women in Technology scholarships have reached the shortlist stage.

There are 13 categories, with some shortlisting results yet to be known. This is the first time there has been such a strong regional focus in the awards.

Sheila Jeffery (Arts, Health and Sciences) and Kathy Egea (InfoCom) have been shortlisted as finalists for the Ergon Energy Regional Communities Award following their application based on organisation and delivery of the Girls in Maths, Science and Technology Summer School.

PhotoID:1580 The pair has been invited to the scholarship awards evening at the Hilton Hotel grand ballroom in Brisbane on July 31.

Meanwhile, InfoCom's Jeni Richardson has been shortlisted for the QUT postgraduate scholarship category and will be interviewed by phone this Saturday as part of the selection process.

Ms Egea said the Summer School advisory committee had included representatives from several faculties and divisions, which also provided support.

The project was coordinated by Ms Jeffery and a team from InfoCom developed the project website (available at http://gimst.cqu.edu.au).

"The summer school was thus the result of a whole of Rockhampton campus approach, blending faculties and divisions together," she said.

"The overall feedback from the girls was very positive, with interest kindled in the three areas of maths, science and technology.".

The girls came to Rockhampton from as far a field as Hughenden, Barcaldine, Longreach, Winton, Springsure,Dysart, Middlemount, Moranbah, Emerald, Mackay, Sarina, Townsville, Hervey Bay, Tin Can Bay, Biggenden, and Bundaberg.
