Japanese teachers visit CQU Emerald

Once again, the staff at CQU Emerald played host to 5 visiting teachers from Komatsu, Japan during their recent visit to Australia.

The 5 teachers, accompanied by Taka Yokoyama from CQU Rockhampton, arrived for a fun-filled weekend in Emerald.

The group was welcomed with a barbecue dinner at Maria Parlato's home, where everyone enjoyed getting to know each other.

The next day, the group participated in a tour of one of the local open-cut coal mines, Ensham Mine.

Staff attended the tour along with the teachers and enjoyed an afternoon of amazing sights under the guidance of Graham Morris, Manager Projects and Environment.

The following day, the group had a wonderful time fossicking for gems at the Gemfields of Sapphire and Rubyvale.

The visitors were amazed by the story of the mining history and participated in an underground tour of a gem mine.

Everyone enjoyed lunch together before the group had to depart for their return to Rockhampton.

The staff at CQU Emerald are proud to provide homestay accommodation for the Japanese visitors.

This is the second consecutive year the Emerald Campus has enjoyed these visits and we look forward to the same again in 2008.

The photos show the visit to Ensham Mine - including the 5 teachers from Komatsui, CQU staff Taka Yokoyama, Maria Parlato and Lane Buffington and also Graham Morris from Ensham Mine.
