CQU Mackay Toastmasters talk of the town

Central Queensland University Toastmasters Club has been awarded club of the year after competing against three other Toastmasters teams from the Mackay area on November 8.

PhotoID:1026 Club president and former CQU Business & Law student Kerrie Mann accepted the aggregate trophy awarded after the club gained the most points from the four speaking competitions.

Winning impromptu speaker Jocelyn Wood said the competition motivated club members to test skills gained throughout the year.

“We rarely meet with other club members, so the annual competition is an opportunity to improve and evaluate ourselves against speakers from other clubs,” she said.

“Competitions on the day related to speaking off the cuff, prepared speeches and evaluating the speaking skills of others.".

Five of the 13-member CQU club spoke at the competition, with winners also including CQU member Peter Baxter who won the International Speech and Evaluation Contests.

Club members meet on the first, third and fifth Tuesdays each month from 1pm to 2pm at the CQU Mackay campus.

For more details call Peter Baxter on 4940 7418.
