Community leaders invited to help retain international students

CQU is hosting Rockhampton's real estate principals and other business and community leaders to help attract and retain international students within the CQ region.

The University is hosting a breakfast on Friday (December 15) to encourage external involvement.

A total of 37 people (23 from the community and 14 from CQU) are expected to attend.

CQU hopes the wider involvement will help international students gain part-time employment and relevant work experience, as well as enhancing cultural interaction.

Friday's breakfast will be the first of similar events to be held in CQU's other regional campus areas.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Angela Delves said the invitation for participation would be ongoing - not just a one-off.

"The main goals are to enhance the accommodation and part-time work needs of international students," she said.

"We aim to form and strengthen partnerships with business and community organisations and we hope to provide cultural awareness programs to community and business groups".
