Invigilators bring experienced eyes to exam room

Invigilators based at CQU's Australian international campuses can bring plenty of diverse experience to their exam room role.
In Sydney, for example, they come from backgrounds ranging from tax agent, auctioneer and office manager, to cooking demonstrator, telephone counsellor and photography assistant.
Other Sydney-based invigilators have backgrounds in encyclopaedia publishing, baked good franchising and radio broadcasting. One is a daughter of a former Governor of NSW, while another is son of a former Chief of the Defence Force.
One of the invigilators with a particularly relevant background is based at CQU Melbourne International Campus.
Reg Coyle (pictured right) spent 40 years as an Australian Customs officer and also worked in the narcotics bureau for the Australian Federal Police. At one point in his career, Reg was supervisor of the safe where confiscated money and drugs were kept. While in customs, Reg worked in the intelligence section charged with trying to anticipate the delivery of drugs.
Another with a relevant background is retired school principal Laurie Smith (pictured left), who now supervises exams at CQU Brisbane International Campus. The former Melbourne-based educator says that students are much the same as they used to be but they have become more inventive and sophisticated when they do try to work around exam rules. Electronic devices have made it even more challenging in this regard.
Other Brisbane-based invigilators include several teachers and a retired senior bank executive.
