The Conferring of the Honorary Award of Companion of the University on Paul Phillip Andersen
Published on 08 September, 2010
In 1952, Paul Andersen graduated from Kelvin Grove Teachers College at the University of Queensland and in 1980 graduated with a Bachelor of Education from this institution. He spent his long career working in both country and regional education areas and has a clear understanding of the ability of educated people to advance civil society by advancing knowledge. He appreciates the impact that a strong University can have on its immediate region, as well as on society in general.
This has led Paul to establish the Fund for Accessing Potential expertise - FAPEx. FAPEx currently enables financial support and recognition of high achieving CQUniversity students through endowed and annual prizes. The potential for FAPEx to make a difference to the people in our region will be significantly strengthened through a bequest in Paul's will. The bequest represents the most significant philanthropic support ever shown to the University and will create many opportunities.
Through his philanthropic vision in establishing FAPEx, supporting student achievement and making a generous bequest, Paul is setting an example for others to follow and is allowing excellence of effort to be recognised and celebrated. The FAPEx bequest, through the University, will provide an endowment for potential and expertise to be fostered in our region in perpetuity.
Paul is a strong advocate for education and is the Patron of Rockhampton's Frenchville State School and the Lord Baden-Powell Society. He demonstrates his loyalty to, and support for, CQUniversity regularly by attending events on campus, showing an active interest and by encouraging other community members to also take an interest in their local University, thus enhancing its reputation.
