Melbourne students not stumped by weather

Despite poor weather conditions, the CQUniversity Melbourne sports day held at Fawkner Park in South Yarra recently (March 15) was a success, as students enjoyed a game of cricket, a barbecue lunch and a spot of Australian Football.
Teams were made up of new and continuing students in a 25-over match, with the retirement mark set at 40.
In the first innings, Harpreet Singh and Vishnu Jasty put together a fine partnership, with Harpreet losing his wicket for 39 while Vishnu, after plundering sixes everywhere, was retired at 43.
Gurpreet Singh and Dinesh Vintha were the pick of the bowlers, keeping the scoring down for extended periods.
Kamalpreet also made a strong contribution to the score but, after batting for nearly 15 overs, was retired once he reached 30 with only one 4 during his innings.
In response, the second team fell well short, with Midhun James the only batsmen to make a significant score. When he was run out the contest was over.
Kamaldeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers with his Andrew Symonds-like action taking 3 wickets and another 2 catches. The ball of the day was delivered by Gayan Silva who bowled a superb outswinger to splay the stumps in every direction to get the initial breakthrough of the second innings.
Despite the competitiveness, the game was played in a very relaxed fashion, with the sole aim being enjoyment for all. From all reports, this was achieved, with the barbecue receiving particular praise.
There was a lot 'at steak' during the barbecue break
