International jazz trumpeter Don Rader is set to lift the roof at Central Queensland University’s library 10th birthday celebrations on April 13.
With 39 years in the profession, Mr Rader has toured with Diana Ross, Count Basie, Woody Herman, Henry Mancinni, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lewis and Bob Hope. He also performed in five Vietnam war-time tours.
As one of three libraries in Australia to integrate music and multimedia material, CQU Library Manager Pauline McNee said the Variety Concert reflected the library’s success in offering a range of resources to students.
“The performance coincides with the workshops being held on Hamilton Island, so this is an ideal opportunity for people on the mainland to appreciate his incredible talent,” she said.
“The library has also been through a few changes in the last few years, including an extension five years ago, so the 10th birthday celebrations will be remembered for numerous reasons.” “In the past few years music has been integrated into our resources, which is an invaluable asset to our Conservatorium students.” The music spectacular includes performances from the CQCM Jazz Orchestra, Latin, soul and other ensembles.
The Library Society Annual General Meeting will be held at 6pm, with the performance starting at 8pm. Tickets must be purchased in advance from the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music. Tickets cost $10, with $5 tickets offered for Library Society members and students. Proceeds from the evening will be used for purchasing music resources. .
