Fiction writer and performance poet Dr Lynda Hawryluk has joined Central Queensland University's academic staff as lecturer in the disciplines of literature and creative writing.
Her writing is due to be part of a book called 'Collected Thoughts of Time'. She produced a book titled 'Sub-Urban Poems' in November and had her poems 'I Can’t Bear Children' and 'Generation X', as well as her article 'Miss Gemmell Regrets', published in other books and websites late in 2004.
Dr Hawryluk is also no stranger to performing.
"As a performance poet I’ve appeared on radio in Sydney a few times, and have done weekly appearances at poetry nights there, sometimes as the special guest. I am also a visual artist – my work has appeared in exhibitions in Sydney and I’m planning on entering a piece in a group show at the Mill Gallery in Yeppoon," she said.
A qualified high school English teacher, Dr Hawryluk studied at the University of Western Sydney and completed her Master of Arts (Honours) thesis at San Francisco State University.
She has taught creative writing, media and communications and literature courses at University of Western Sydney and for the University of New South Wales for the past four years as well as teaching at high schools in Sydney.
In coming to CQU, Dr Hawryluk hopes to further develop the University's creative writing program with Associate Professor Wally Woods.
"I hope to provide innovative and interesting programs to both our internal and external students here at CQU," she said.
