Rocky's Night of the Proms attracts international singer

An international singer will join a cast of more than 100 local performers for Rockhampton’s 4th annual Night of the Proms, from 7pm on Sunday, August 31, at the Pilbeam Theatre.

Before moving to Brisbane only 18 months ago, English-born soprano Louise Kennedy spent an active career performing solo roles with professional companies such as London’s Royal Opera, the English National Opera, the Academy of Saint Martin in the Fields, the Welsh National Opera and New York’s Metropolitan Opera.

In 1991, Kennedy moved to Brisbane to take up residence as principal soloist with Qld Lyric Opera, after which she moved back to London with her Australian husband. Since moving back to Brisbane, she has been busy performing with the Queensland Pops Orchestra.

In this year’s Night of the Proms, Kennedy will join the Central Queensland Orchestra and the Rockhampton Community choir to sing soprano classics such as ‘Summertime’, ‘Vilja’ and ‘Rule Britannia’. Joining Rockhampton’s well-known baritone, Dimitri Kopanakis, the pair will sing the memorable ballad ‘Time to Say Goodbye’, made famous by Sarah Brightman and Andre Bocelli, and the famous duet ‘The Drinking Song’ from ‘La Traviata’ .

The concert will also feature guest conductor, Christopher Kiver, who will be travelling from the USA especially for the event, and local singers, Linda Coombes, Lachlan Scheuber and Meghan Tait.
