Mackay residents welcome to experience 'Guitarmania'

Internationally-recognised classical guitarist Matthew Marshall will be performing a solo concert at the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music Theatre, on CQUniversity Mackay Campus, from 7.30pm on Friday, May 20.

Professor Marshall is CQUniversity's newly-appointed Dean of Creative and Performing Arts. Originally from New Zealand, he has performed throughout the world, including several tours to the USA, Mexico, Russia, Germany, the UK, Australia, China and Malaysia and from Iceland to Easter Island!

He has also appeared as soloist with the Berlin Chamber Orchestra, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the Guanajuato Symphony Mexico and the Kemerovo Philharmonic Russia.

Professor Marshall has also recorded for radio and TV - in the USA, Mexico, Germany, Australia and New Zealand - and has released nine CDs.

He will be performing a program of guitar music that will appeal to a wide range of musical tastes: from soulful Brazilian dances, sultry Eastern European melodies and beautiful French jazz songs through to music inspired by the horror stories of Edgar Allan Poe!

Of particular interest will be an extended work written by the American composer Ingram Marshall (no relation!) for amplified classical guitar and digital effects in surround-sound.

This work features an unusual classical guitar built in USA that has no resonating body - only a solid piece of wood that directs the sound of the strings to a pre-amplifier then via an effects unit to the auditorium. It will be a truly unique experience!

Bookings for the concert can be made by phoning the Conservatorium of Music 07 4940 7800. Tickets: Adult $20, Concession $15, Con Friends/Students $10.
