CQU Mackay secures more places for Secondary Teachers

The increasingly popular Bachelor of Learning Management (BLM) degree at Central Queensland University Mackay is able to offer up to 20 more places for secondary teaching in the 2005 intake.

Sub-Dean of Education and Creative Arts Ms Cecily Knight is thrilled to announce the additional places for 2005, which will be the first year that BLM students can complete secondary teaching degrees at CQU Mackay.

“In the past, students wishing to become secondary teachers of Year 11 and 12 students have had to complete their degree in Rockhampton. From 2005, they can complete their degree here in Mackay. ” Ms Knight said.

“In 2005, we will be offering the undergraduate maths/science program and the graduate program in secondary music,” she said. “Because we offer a fast-track option, students can complete their 4-year BLM degree in secondary teaching (maths/science) in three years. The BLM graduate music program can be completed in 18 months, as it builds on the specialisation of the student’s music degree.".

Queensland Education’s Executive Director for Schools Mr Wayne Butler is “delighted to work in partnership with CQU to increase the intake of students available to teach in local schools.".

“These additional places will be an advantage for Mackay and district as we hope to retain these teachers when they complete their degrees and move into the workforce,” Mr Butler said.

Places in the Bachelor of Learning Management degree are usually filled in first-round offers, so interested applicants should place CQU Mackay as their first preference.
