Unique Red Cross auction pays off

The hammer has come down on Julia Gillard's personally signed Women's Weekly which raised $1200 for the Red Cross via an Ebay auction.

The auction, which was initiated by CQUniversity during the Prime Minister's vist to the Evacuation Centre, will be topped up by the University, which has committed dollar for dollar raised.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard visited the Red Cross Evacuation Centre at CQUniversity Rockhampton as part of her tour of the flood devastated region.

We were lucky enough to have Prime Minister Gillard sign a copy of the famous (or infamous?) August 2010 Woman's Weekly magazine (the one where she is on the front cover). You may recall the magazine came out immediately after Ms Gillard became Australia's first female Prime Minister, with the article and photo shoot causing a bit of a buzz at the time.

The personally-signed copy of the magazine was beautifully framed by Rockhampton Picture Framing and Wall Art, which kindly donated time and materials for this Red Cross Fundraiser.

This personally-signed copy of the Woman's Weekly magazine was among a pile of magazines being read by evacuees at the Red Cross centre at the time. It was a magazine donated to the Evacuation Centre by The Red Cross, and it is only fitting that the proceeds of this auction are returned to The Red Cross in recognition of the tremendous work they have done, and will continue to do, for the individuals and families affected by the devastating Queensland floods.
