CQUniversity student Lachlan Mee will travel to China soon as part of the International Scholar Laureate Program.
n his third year of CQUniversity's Bachelor of Building Surveying and Certification, Lachlan is excited about the prospect to expand his knowledge in his field of study by touring the world's largest hydroelectric project, the Three Gorges Dam. The Great Wall of China and meetings with scholars from the Chinese Academy of Sciences are also on the agenda.

"I am really looking forward to being able to see some of the amazing architectural and engineering feats in China, particularly within this scholar program as it will look a lot deeper than just your average tourist," Lachlan explained.

"Having grown up in Proserpine with a population of around 6500 to go somewhere like China that has 6 billion people will be pretty mind blowing really."

The opportunity to take part in the 15-day trip came as a result of Lachlan's involvement in the Golden Key International Honour Society, a world-wide collegiate honour society which recognises outstanding academic achievement and exemplary leadership.

To participate in the program is an expensive undertaking for a student so Lachlan is seeking sponsorship and is fundraising to help with the costs.

Lachlan will depart for China on May 20.
