Molly plants deep roots in Rocky

Story and Photograph by Stephen Lin.

CQU doctoral candidate Molly Yang - a former overseas agents coordinator at CQU International - has planted roots in Rockhampton, literally (thanks to 4 free trees from the city council planted on her birthday) and also figuratively.

PhotoID:2984 Even though she has lived in Melbourne and Cairns, she has chosen Rockhampton as her new home town.

As Principal of Cathay Culture Promoters, Molly has been presenting the Rocky Chinese Radio Show for the past 3 years. She is now producing a Taiwanese and Cantonese Joint Half Hour for Radio 4 YOU.

She is also instrumental to the establishment of the Friends of Taiwan – CQU club. She is devoted to promoting multiculturalism through community artwork, local history and Chinese culture preservation.

She is glad CQU has won a Premier’s Multicultural Award and more thrilled to notice that both her Chinese radio project and the 'Worship in Asian Folklores' art exhibition have been cited among highlights of the University’s achievements.

“We come here not to take jobs away from local residents; we are here to promote Australian products, resources, services and natural beauties to overseas counterparts," Molly says.

"We are ready to contribute to building a prosperous, flourishing and tolerant community in Rockhampton. We are happy to be associated with the University and wider community".

Molly's Doctor of Business research is examining 'Why Chinese Students come to Regional Universities in Australia'.
