It's storytime for region's young school children

Grade 1 to 3 children from primary schools throughout the region were treated to a week of storybook theatre at Central Queensland University in Rockhampton.

CQU’s Bachelor of Learning Management students performed three short plays for about 500 children from schools such as Gracemere, Yeppoon, Cawarral and Depot Hill. A group of children from Bluff travelled in for Thursday’s performances.

CQU Drama lecturer Howard Cassidy said the plays were very visual incorporating some high tech mediums, illusion, stage smoke and flashing lights.

The plays included one about bullying which takes place in a world under the sea. Another took place in a tent where some children were sleeping over and dealt with children facing their fears. The final play featured some city kids building a junk castle where a car park was to be built.

“We’ve been doing storybook theatre at CQU for about 17 years and we are always booked out. The teachers really love it,” Mr Cassidy said.
