Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Industry stalwart and former Mayor to be honoured at Mackay Graduation 

Industry stalwart Allan Ruming and former Mayor Julie Boyd will be honoured during CQUniversity's Mackay Graduation, from 2pm this Friday, April 27.

In recognition of his auspicious career in the engineering and mining industries and his advocacy on behalf of the University, the degree of Honorary Master of Engineering will be conferred on Mr Ruming.

Meanwhile, the honorary award of Companion of the University will be conferred on Ms Julie Boyd to recognise her support of CQUniversity, her contribution as a community leader and her service to the state of Queensland.

The CQUniversity Mackay Graduation Medal will also be presented to high-performing Bachelor of Accounting student Cassandra Matthews.

A total of 123 graduates will attend the ceremony which starts at 2pm, at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre.

They will hear from guest speaker Superintendent Graham Coleman, a highly decorated and dedicated member of the Queensland Police Force who is the designated District Officer for the Mackay Police District.

Cassandra Matthews will deliver a response on behalf of the graduates.
