Margaret Strelow - Companion of the University

Margaret Strelow's name is well known in Central Queensland because of the outstanding contribution Margaret made as a Councillor then as Mayor from 2000 to 2008 of the Rockhampton City Council.

Margaret's contribution was many fold in effectively promoting major mining and industrial projects in the region, developing regional water strategies, embracing an integrated approach to development planning, and strongly advocating, in the face of opposition from other Councils, the amalgamations which have resulted in the Rockhampton Regional Council today.

During her time in local government, Margaret espoused the many benefits of tertiary education and always strongly expressed her support for this University. We rejoice with her in her achievements as one of our alumni.
