CQU staff member David Downer has used a fusion of painting and photography to create works for his first art exhibition, ‘The Light Fantastic’.
The exhibition will be open from 7pm on Friday, November 5, at the Walter Reid Cultural Centre in East Street. It will remain open from 10am to 4pm each day after the launch until November 14.
CQU's Dr Jeanette Delamoir will open the exhibition.
Downer, who is a graphic designer at CQU, has created prints of a colour vibrancy and energy only achievable through new media.
“The colours found in the natural environment, land and sea have inspired the artwork,” Downer said.
“Inspiration has also come from the clouds – with a bit of imagination you can see images appear and evolve in clouds, as hopefully you can in my work also.”.
Downer said ‘The Light Fantastic’ was the result of 12 months of experimentation with computer-assisted design and high quality, photographic, metallic, Kodak print media.
Funding support has come from RADF via Rockhampton City Council.
