New Noosa Hub Director excited to be at leading edge

New CQU Noosa Hub Director David Turner is excited to be at the leading edge of teacher education in Australia.

Noosa Hub was the incubator for CQU's acclaimed Bachelor of Learning Management (BLM) program, which was recently endorsed by an Australian Council of Education Research (ACER) report.

ACER's national study reported that new-style ‘learning managers’ graduating from CQU are well prepared to meet the demands of first-year teaching when compared to graduates of more traditional education degrees. ACER reported that teachers from the BLM reported greater levels of preparedness across almost all areas of teaching compared with graduates from other programs.

PhotoID:2766 Mr Turner, a former teacher and principal, has recently taken over the Noosa Hub role from founding director Professor David Lynch. However, he is not a newcomer.

\"I\'ve been involved in the delivery of the Bachelor of Learning Management (BLM) on the Sunshine Coast since 2001 as Chair of the Steering Committee and also through sessional work within the program,\" he said.

Mr Turner said the delivery of the BLM degree, in partnership with the industry, has proven to deliver results in terms of the quality of graduates.

\"The fact a person like myself from a teaching background has been appointed to this role with the University speaks volumes about the importance of the partnership,\" he said.

\\\"My recent experience is that the school can also benefit from being involved with CQU\'s BLM. CQU will continue to develop the partnership with schools and the wider community.\".

Mr Turner said the establishment of new CQU offices in Cooroy (6 Emerald Street) provided a centre for administration and postgraduate students, complementing the Noosa Hub.

\"While our main focus remains on the teacher education program based at Cooroora Secondary College in Pomona, the new Cooroy office offers additional facilities for our postgraduate students.\".

Mr Turner has been a principal at schools throughout North Queensland, South-Western Queensland and South-East Queensland and was most recently at Kenilworth State Community College.

He has also taught in British Columbia, Canada and Victoria and has qualifications including a Bachelor of Education, a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Management and Leadership in Education.

Mr Turner is currently working towards completion of a Doctor of Education degree.

He lives in the Sunshine Coast hinterland with his wife Susan and their 3 children.
