Over $30 000 in Informatics and Communication scholarships on offer

Undergraduate students are urged to apply for a slice of the $30 000 on offer for studies in Informatics & Communication programs commencing 2006 through Central Queensland University.

Most scholarships are valued at $2000. One scholarship is valued at $5000 in dedication to the late Professor John D Smith. This scholarship honours the CQU Foundation Professor of Computing who contributed to the Faculty and CQU for 25 years.

Faculty of Informatics & Communication Dean Kevin Tickle expects the scholarships would encourage more participation in information technology, multi-media, mathematics, electronic journalism, communication, cultural studies, electronic commerce and aviation technology.

“The scholarships are offered to students with the potential to be high achievers in their tertiary studies. There are also a number of scholarships offered on the basis of equity and merit themes,” he said.

“The Faculty of Informatics & Communication is pleased to have this opportunity to financially assist students with their studies. We hope this enables students to focus more effectively on the courses that they will study next year.”.

Successful recipients use the funds to purchase a computer, text books or put it towards student fees.

The Professor John D Smith Postgraduate Scholarship funds would be used to conduct research in the field of applied computing or mathematics.

Applications for the scholarships close Friday, December 2, 2005.

More information and applications forms are available on the Faculty website: http://www.infocom.cqu.edu.au/Prospective_Students/Scholarships/
