CQU staff 'pop' up on the airwaves

Several CQU staff members have become regular radio commentators on pop music and pop culture.

Rockhampton-based PhD student and part-time staff member Jim Douglas (pictured) has a spot on ABC Radio Queensland Drive, between 4.30pm and 5pm on every second Friday.

PhotoID:1387 Jim is studying music video and the development of audiovisual technology, but his radio segments cross subjects as diverse as the authentic sound of vinyl, pop music trends, music industry issues and the demise of the single.

Mackay-based lecturer Judith Brown (pictured), from the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music, has a regular Tuesday morning (9.52am) spot on ABC Radio CQ.

Judith tends to focus on songs and singers and has recently informed her listeners about T-Rex, Daddy Cool, Dr Hook, the Mixtures' Pushbike Song, Irving Berlin's White Christmas, Cilla Black, Shirley Bassey and Petula Clark.

Judith has also arranged a regular segment with ABC Radio's Mackay studio. She will discuss some of the greats of popular music in the 20th and 21st century who have shaped our culture. The segment will air on a fortnighly basis on Thursday mornings before the 10am news.

Kate previews and reviews television shows and has lately debated the merits (and otherwise) of reality television.
