Psychology student secures cadetship

A Central Queensland University second-year psychology student has been awarded a National Indigenous Cadetship.

Sarah Lippitt said she would be sponsored by Centrelink for the duration of her course, have all university fees paid, would receive a weekly salary and would work with psychologists at an organisation during holidays.

“All I have to do is maintain my grades,” Ms Lippitt said.

She said she received one of 16 cadetships offered to indigenous people throughout Australia.

She had to go through an interview process in Canberra before the cadetship was approved.

“I found out about it through uni and applied through the Internet,” she said.

“Now I don’t have to worry about uni fees at the end. I don’t have to worry about textbooks. I don’t have to work in the week because I get paid and I don’t have to look for a job at the end.” Ms Lippitt said she was surprised when she found out she had won.

“I was shocked at first but then I was happy because I knew I did well in the interview,” she said.

Ms Lippitt said the cadetship would take a weight off her shoulders.

“It’s a relief because I don’t have to worry about finding money for everything.” Article courtesy of The Morning Bulletin
