This diverse bunch have just completed Biomedical Science degrees at Central Queensland University in Rockhampton and are planning to progress into Honours in 2008.
But their more immediate scholarship projects (listed below) are all related to cardiovascular function and disease and are each valued at $180 per week over 6-8 weeks.
Supervisor Dr Andrew Fenning said the students were selected by the Heart Foundation on a nationally competitive basis, which took into account the strengths of the research proposals, their personal results and the reputation of the Biomedical Science degree at CQU.
Maree Bennett is a mother who has previously worked in childcare; Anna Voss came from school to university and is known for her jazz clarinet talents; Candice Bowen is a former South African student; Sharyn Moodie is a journalist and mother; and Faezeh Nabiollahi is a former Iranian dental technician who has recently gained Australian citizenship.
