This diverse bunch have just completed Biomedical Science degrees at Central Queensland University in Rockhampton and are planning to progress into Honours in 2008.

But their more immediate scholarship projects (listed below) are all related to cardiovascular function and disease and are each valued at $180 per week over 6-8 weeks.

Supervisor Dr Andrew Fenning said the students were selected by the Heart Foundation on a nationally competitive basis, which took into account the strengths of the research proposals, their personal results and the reputation of the Biomedical Science degree at CQU.

  • The scholarship offers the students an opportunity to get a taste of undertaking an intensive short-term research project as a prelude to undertake higher level dedicated research activities.
  • The scholarships offer the students an opportunity to explore how passionate they are about a future as research scientists.
  • This is believed to be the first time that CQU has been awarded 5 of these scholarships at once - confirming the growing standing of our biomedical research areas.
