Teens experience uni life at CQU Bundaberg

High school students will experience local University for a day when CQU Bundaberg opens its doors to more than 150 high school students this Friday (March 26 from 10am to 2pm).

Students are expected from Bundaberg State High, Isis State High, Kepnock High School Rosedale High School, St Luke\'s High and Shalom College.

This unique day gives Year 12 students a glimpse at university life. Students will have the opportunity to experience first-hand a lecture and will have easy access to information on subjects and courses of interest to them.

CQU Bundaberg Head of Campus Alex Grady said the day was a great chance for potential university students to get a glimpse of what lay ahead.

"We appreciate high school students moving into their final year are probably facing some of the most difficult choices and decisions that they have ever had to make. Choosing to attend university is not an easy choice. It means years of hard work and financial hardship, but we believe the rewards are worth it," Professor Grady said.

"These life-changing decisions can be a daunting prospect for many high school students. Once they have indeed made the decision to go on to further education there are more decisions such as which university or course will suit them?".

"For this reason CQU Bundaberg instigated the CQU Experience. Not only do the students find out about what programs we offer here but can talk to current students, staff and support services and get a feel for University." During their visit the year 11 and 12 students will have the opportunity to gain an overall insight into university life and how it differs from school, have a tour of the campus and the facilities by a CQU student mentor, meet with course advisors and faculty staff and take part in a choice of two lectures.

The lectures are: "Why we need MATES in our schools\", (Building 1 lecture theatre), Steve Smith, lecturer, Faculty Education and Creative Arts.

"Nursing through the ages for all ages?\" (Building 5, lecture theatre) Wendy Madsen, lecturer, Faculty Arts, Health and Sciences.
