The Indigenous Family Violence Prevention Forum aims to:

  • highlight and celebrate the good work that is being done by Indigenous people themselves to end domestic and family violence;
  • support Indigenous people to share information and knowledge about strategies and programs that could be used effectively by others; and to
  • promote opportunities for networking between Indigenous workers in the field of domestic and family violence prevention.

Topics to be covered at this year's forum are:

  • Working with men and young people who perpetrate domestic and family violence
  • The impact of domestic and family violence on children
  • Primary prevention - working with children and young people to prevent violence happening

This year CDFVR is also offering a free three-day training opportunity immediately after the 7th Qld Indigenous Family Violence Prevention Forum (on June 1-3) to 25 Indigenous forum participants. The training will be the first unit of CDFVR's nationally accredited Course in Responding to Domestic and Family Violence - Recognise and Respond Appropriately to Domestic and Family Violence (valued at approximately $500 per participant and resulting in a qualification). The venue for the training will be CQUniversity, Boundary Road, Mackay.
