Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music (CQCM) Bachelor of Music Theatre student Paul Tabone is ending the year on a high note.

The talented 19-year-old from Ingham has been selected (via a radio competition) to join the likes of musical theatre leading lady Marina Prior, former Australia Idol Guy Sebastian and jazz legend James Morrison, all performing at this year's Carols in the City in Brisbane.

Paul said this kind of performing is good practice and might set him on his way to becoming a professional singer.

"I was so happy to hear the news that I'd made it through as I've always wanted to sing at the Carols.  It's good exposure to showcase talent and who knows, I might get some kind of break out of it," said Paul.

Paul has a passion for musical theatre and opera and hopes to one day become successful in the tough entertainment industry.

"I've been singing since I was about 9 and I've had some great coaches including Rita Phillips and now at the Conservatorium I am studying under Kim Kirkman who founded the 10 Tenors and Garrick Jones who is a nationally acclaimed opera singer" said Paul.

With Paul's dedication it's no wonder his vocals have matured into a resonant tenor range, scoring him roles in a variety of productions such as Pajama Game, High School Musical and Little Shop of Horrors.  He was also in the Queensland revival of Geoff Wayne's War of the Worlds and Forever Autumn last year.

This year he was CQCM's Most Promising Voice for Music Theatre.  If you would like to vote for Paul in the 96.5FM Listener's Choice, go to http://www.96five.com.au/ and click on the Carols in the City link.

You can also watch Channel 10 on Christmas Day when the event will be televised.
