Still in her mid-20s, CQUniversity graduate Kate Cochrane is already being groomed as a leader within Brisbane's Catholic Education community.
She's also being sponsored to attend Blessed Mary MacKillop's canonisation in Rome on October 17.

Kate Cochrane - a rising star within the Catholic Education community
Kate might not yet have packed her bags but her journey began as a young girl, playing dress-ups as Mary MacKillop, attending Josephite schools, performing with a social justice singing group and considering becoming a nun.
One day, however, she became inspired by the idea of becoming a teacher. She completed an Arts degree and followed up with a Graduate Diploma in Learning and Teaching with CQUniversity.
"I have very fond memories of CQUni," Kate says. "Rickie Fisher and Scott Aldred were fantastic! The course was exactly what I needed to prepare me for the classroom and I came out with full-time permanent work in a wonderful school with a beautiful class."
Now based at Brisbane's Mary Immaculate Primary at Annerley, Kate recently led her class through an innovative 'prayer garden' project, featuring sustainable concepts and community engagement.

She encourages pupils to follow Mary MacKillop's example by 'seeing a need and doing something about it'.

In the wake of the school project - featured in a Catholic Education Week video via http://esd.bne.catholic.edu.au/Showcase.htm - she has been asked to present for a Seeds of Change conference, to help other Early Years teachers plan sustainability units.
Kate recently attended Brisbane's Pray 2010 event, where she was honoured to be invited to lead a workshop.
Now she's looking forward to her pilgrimage to Rome and to sharing her experience of the canonisation with her students and the wider parish community in Brisbane.
As if Kate's life was not busy enough, she's also planning her wedding day for April next year.
