Population researchers seek help with phone survey

The Population Research Laboratory based at CQU needs your help with its sixth annual Central Queensland Social Survey (CQSS).

Staff from the Laboratory will this Friday (October 15) begin calling 1200 randomly selected households throughout Central Queensland to ascertain attitudes towards issues such as health and lifestyle.

"Questions will be about health, physical activity, work and stress, holidays and the environment," manager of the Laboratory, Lindsay Greer said.

"The survey will also include a standard series of demographic questions like age, gender and education.".

The CQSS is a computer-assisted phone survey conducted across the area which extends north to Mackay, south to Bundaberg and west to the Northern Territory border.

Survey results will help to inform academic researchers, government departments and non-profit organisations, as well as private sector researchers, about the attitudes and opinions of the people of Central Queensland.

"We are interested in speaking with people aged over 18, of any nationality and from all lifestyles.

"Contributors to the survey normally choose to publish their findings in either government reports, academic journals or in the popular media," Mr Greer explained.

"Local newspapers and local television news will often report findings and issues arising from the CQSS.".
