Budding female scientists set to discover tertiary options
Published on 20 May, 2004
About 60 potential female scientists are converging on Central Queensland University Mackay on May 21-22.
Girls In For Technology and Science (GIFTS) university co-ordinator Vivien Clift said interactive hands-on activities would be used to highlight the numerous opportunities relating to science and technology.
“Hopefully the activities will motivate the girls to persevere with their current interest in science and technology or the specialised interaction may ignite an interest in these disciplines,” she said.
“Apart from completing a range of fun and interesting activities, the girls will meet eight professional scientists and become aware of the range of university programs available for such careers.
“The science, multimedia, robotics and engineering activities should allow the students to make informed decisions about their future studies and career options.”.
Year 10, 11 and 12 students will travel from Bowen, Collinsville, Moranbah and Sarina to join Mackay peers over the two days.
The Centre for Excellence in Science, Maths and Technology at Pioneer State High School is facilitating the event in conjunction with CQU Mackay.
