CQU's Ron Smyth building (in Rockhampton's Quay Street) has hosted the Optus opening of the SmartNet Network.
SingTel Optus general manager Mark Williamson and Hon Robert Schwarten MP, Minister for Public Works, Housing and Racing, joined about 30 government, business and community leaders at the official opening of the Optus SmartNet* network.
By the end of this month, Optus will have deployed high-speed fibre loops in Rockhampton, Cairns, and Townsville and broadband infrastructure in 30 sites in regional towns.
Mr Williamson said this significant network enhancement ensures competitive broadband telecommunications will be delivered to the majority of the Queensland population.
"It represents a significant step toward providing regional Queenslanders with greater choice, improved pricing and service levels, access to an expanded range of technologies, and local opportunities for wealth creation," he said.
