Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Campus hosts free dementia training workshop 

Primary health care practitioners are welcome to attend a free half-day dementia training workshop at CQUniversity Rockhampton's large lecture theatre (Bldg 32/1.28), from 9am-1pm on Tuesday, June 16.

The event has been arranged by the University's Institute for Health and Social Science Research and Alzheimer's Australia Central Queensland.

Organiser and host Dr Jo Storey*, a lecturer and Research Fellow with CQUniversity's Department of Behavioural and Social Sciences, will inform participants about the RUDAS:  a new test for identifying cognitive impairment in older Australians.

* Dr Storey was former manager of the Dementia Advisory Service at Liverpool (NSW) Hospital. She was part of a team that won first prize in the 2003 International Psychogeriatrics Association (IPA) Awards for Research in Psychogeriatrics for the paper titled, ‘The Rowland Universal Dementia Assessment Scale (RUDAS): A Multicultural Assessment Scale'.
