CQU shows support for fellow North Queenslanders

Staff and students from Central Queensland University (CQU) Mackay have rallied together to offer support to their fellow North Queenslanders battered by the storm that was Cyclone Larry earlier this week.

A donation box has been set up in the CQU administration building and staff, students and members of the public who would like to show their support are invited to donate money, non-perishable food items or toiletries. All items received will be delivered to Innisfail for distribution by the St Vincent de Paul Society.

PhotoID:3035 Coordinators of the effort, Jo Falzon, Administration Officer with the Faculty of Business and Informatics, and Liz Underwood, Administration Manager are planning to empty the boxes on a regular basis over the next couple of weeks.

“We hope the first donation boxes will be full to the brim by Friday morning so they can be sent to Innisfail in time for the weekend”, said Jo. “I think the fact that members of the North Queensland community are showing their support in whatever way they can, will be of some comfort to the people of Innisfail.”.

The CQU Student Association is also making a contribution to help the Cyclone Larry victims with their ‘Lunch Time Trivia’ taking place next Wednesday March 29. Forty percent of the money raised will go directly to Cyclone Larry victims and a gold coin donation tin has been set up in the CQU Refectory.

If you would like to donate to the Cyclone Larry victims please feel free to drop your donation into CQU Mackay, Administration, Building 1, Boundary Road.
