Central Queensland University research will feature in this week’s Catalyst program on ABC TV.
Former CQU researcher, Adam Bryant’s work on ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) knee injuries in women will air this Thursday on the ABC at 8pm. (Mr Bryant has recently taken up a position at the University of Melbourne).
The joint study between biomechanist Mr Bryant and Rockhampton orthopaedic surgeon Associate Professor Erik Hohmann looked at how to prevent Australia' s most common and costly sports injury by manipulating blood oestrogen levels using the pill.
Mr Bryant, Associate Professor Erik Hohmann and German medical student Elisabeth Eiling, of Kiel University, have established a 'first in the world' link between oestrogen and musculotendinous stiffness (MTS) and knee laxity at the time when females are most predisposed to injury.
