Central Queensland University's Office of Research staff presented two wheel barrows full of Christmas goodies last week to Anglicare's Marian Vickery for their annual Christmas appeal.

Research staff worked for weeks gathering, buying and preparing the enormous donation for the charity.

But what led to the decision for this group of university staff to support such a charity?

"We were sitting around talking about how we were looking forward to Christmas and the conversation led to comparisons of ‘being broke'," the team explained.

"So, there is ‘I wish I could buy those new shoes for the party but I had better not' broke and there is ‘I wonder where my next meal is coming from' broke. We all are of the former definition and we were reflecting on how lucky we were."

"We decided this year to support a family through Anglicare's Christmas campaign. Then we got excited and decided to support TWO families."

The hampers and toys were donated by: , Leslie Walker, Sue Evans, Maureen Hill, Nicky Moore, Mark Young, Jess Gudmann, Moti Hooper, Jennelle Kyd, Louise Sutton, Kerrie Hand and Megan Barrett.

Included in the donations were brand name, non-perishable, Christmas food, as well as gifts for 9 children and 4 adult s.

The two wheelbarrows were donated by Glenford's Tool Centre and Finch's Mitre 10, while the BedShed donated some candles for the hampers.

Ms Barrett said she thought no one in the office of Research could be called rich, but they all gave overwhelmingly for the cause.

"I am very, very proud of them."
