CQU students Ben Bourke (picture courtesy The Morning Bulletin) from Rockhampton and Bundaberg’s Rowan Graham have been selected in the Australian Student Rugby league side. The URLQ's State Team’s winning run continued after a comprehensive 20-6 victory over the old enemy, NSW Universities at Coffs Harbour on Anzac Day. The Qld Players Player Award went to Robert Anderson but he was run close with a top effort from Rowan Graham (CQU Bundaberg).
After the game an Australian Universities team was selected to tour Tonga and New Zealand in July and 12 players were selected from Qld.
The players recently attended a week long camp in Brisbane before the match against NSW in Coffs Harbour on April 25th. CQU student Ryan Boswell, from Rockhampton, was unlucky in missing selection, after making it to the State side.
Ben currently plays for the CQU North’s Chargers in the Rockhampton Rugby League competition whilst Rowan plays in the Bundaberg competition. It was an excellent performance from the players to be selected, and highlights the opportunities and services that the Student Association provided for these players to compete and be selected.
“We are very proud of both Ben’s and Rowan’s efforts to be selected,” CQU Student Associations Sports and Clubs Manager Scott Lovegrove stated. “We have adopted a strong focus on community integration with our sporting clubs, and The Chargers success has benefited from this, with whom both Ben Bourke and Ryan Boswood play for,” Lovegrove said.
