Journalism Discussion Draws Crowd
Published on 11 April, 2002
Veteran newsman Jeff McMullen spoke to more than 80 people Thursday at CQU\'s Rockhampton City Centre campus.
Invited by Professor Alan Knight, Chair - Journalism & Media Studies, McMullen urged journalism students to hold to high standards and not become the story themselves. He consulted with CQU reporters-in-training on global and ethical responsibilities of journalists in the 21st century.
Knight often invites professionals like McMullen to interact with students and provide real-world training and advice to new reporters.
"Journalism students need to be exposed to quality professionals who deal with the sort of ethical issues that Jeff’s encountered. They also need to build a solid network of contacts among journalism professionals in the community, the region and around the country.” Knight said.
McMullen also conducted a class about Investigative Journalism .
McMullen participated in a Q&A session with the audience, drawing on events recorded in his recent book, \"A Life of Extremes\", which examines a reporter’s life amid some of the most significant turning points in history.
