Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Conservatorium visitors join locals for classical concert 

A mix of home-grown and imported singers and musicians will feature during the CQ Vocale's 'Schubert to Gershwin (with Detour)' concert on a Sunday afternoon (May 12).

The event will be held from 3 pm at Rockhampton Grammar School's Memorial Assembly Hall in Archer Street. Tickets are available via Green Brothers in Rockhampton or Stella's Gift Shoppe in Yeppoon.

The CQ Vocale vocal chamber ensemble will be led by musical director Jack Morgan, with the musical ensemble led by Bob Heppel.

Guest soloists include professional opera singer Garrick Jones, who has performed in leading roles throughout Europe, the United States and Australia. Garrick, a baritone, is still performing professional roles, and is now based in Mackay as a lecturer with the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music.

Another guest from the CQ Conservatorium in Mackay is pianist Regis Danillon . A guest conductor for the event is Dr Richard Swann, lecturer in choral conducting and aural studies at the University of Queensland.

Local voice teacher and soprano Amanda O'Brien will perform and Alice Girle and Wilson Thomas will also contribute vocal solos.
