Emerald to celebrate academic and artistic stars

CQUniversity Emerald is looking forward to celebrating academic stars alongside artistic stars in 2009, with plans to combine its Academic Awards presentation evening with the culmination of a major dance workshop.

Campus coordinator Gai Sypher said she had confirmed RCotA (Regional Centre of the Arts) funding from the University to support the project in July next year.

Ms Sypher said the funding would enable Brisbane's Raw Dance Company to visit Emerald to conduct a 3-day dance workshop, open to students from local and regional dance studios and high schools.

"Raw Dance is a professional company which received acclaim during the TV program 'So You Think You Can Dance' when one of their students - Jack Chambers - won the overall competition," Ms Sypher said.

"The conclusion of the workshop would result in a dance production performed at the Academic Awards at Emerald Town Hall on July 4, under the 'Urban Wonderland' theme and open to the community free of charge."
