International Film Festival in Mackay

The CQU Mackay Library Society presents its annual International Film Festival from Friday, November 5 through to Sunday, November 7.

The organising committee is thrilled to present this incredible line-up of films, which includes 'Sylvia', a UK film starring Gwenyth Paltrow, 'Goodbye Lenin', a German film directed by Wolfgang Becker, Academy award-winning Canadian film 'The Barbarian Invasions' and the highly acclaimed academy award winning Australian animation, 'Harvie Crumpet.'.

PhotoID:1879 “For the first time this year, the line-up also includes a number of short films which will screen before the main features,” said Shelley Dent, CQU Librarian and event organiser.

“Saturday night will be particularly popular as there will be supper and musical entertainment by bands 'Infusion' and 'Zinzaba', who will set the scene for the evening's viewing,” she said.

Saturday night’s main feature is 'Amandla! A revolution in Four-Part Harmony', by South African director Lee Hirsh.

“This is a fine documentary about the role music played in the fight against apartheid in South Africa. Wonderful songs and amazing people are featured, plus a potted history of segregation and what it did to the country.” (Margaret Pomeranz).

Mackay audiences are very fortunate to be able to view such a fabulous collection of international films which normally only screen in the capital cities.

This annual event has proven to be very popular with Mackay audiences over the past few years, with hundreds flocking to screenings over the festival weekend. Ticket prices have also been maintained at a very reasonable level.

CQU would like to thank sponsors Hairway, World Bazaar, Mackay City Council and the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) for helping to make this event a reality.
