High school students connect with tourism proposal
Published on 28 June, 2006
CQU lecturers Daryl Alcock, Jillian Litster, Kylie Radel and Robyn Alcock engaged high school students in a simulated board meeting, reviewing a tourism business proposal as part of the CQU Connections program.
The interactive activity illustrated how business disciplines such as marketing, accounting, HRM, management, tourism and information systems are integrated within an organisation.
The meeting focused on the issues arising from a proposed tourism project.
Overall, the students stated that while the proposal sounded viable, the project would need to be fully costed with appropriate research establishing the need for such tours before a firm decision could be made.
CQU Connections is a week-long program designed to encourage students from under-represented socio-economic backgrounds to consider university study as a viable option in their future.
The high school students were from a cross-section of schools throughout the Central Queensland region including Rockhampton, Gracemere, Blackall, Clermont, Mackay, Bundaberg, Rosedale, Yeppoon and Monto.
