Teachers share and talk
Published on 16 May, 2006
Central Queensland University (CQU) Mackay recently played host to the very successful 2006 Teacher Talk conference.
Education Queensland teachers from across the Mackay-Whitsunday region attended, along with CQU staff members from the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Education.
Ray Clarke, the Masters of Learning Management (MLM) Coordinator for Mackay-Whitsunday organised this very successful day, where teachers completing their MLM degrees presented to their peers on various topics associated with their chosen field of study.
Workshop topics included ‘E-Tools for Educators’, ‘Boys and Learning – An Educational Oxymoron’, ‘Practical Strategies for Early Maths Students’ and ‘Advanced Thinking Skills in Early Years Education’.
The workshops, which ran throughout the day, were very well attended, with over 80 teachers and CQU staff present.
According to Ray Clarke, “Teachers who undertake the Master of Learning Management program design their own degrees, with one of the key criterion of the MLM assessment being the students’ capacity to network and share their learning – hence the reason for Teacher Talk 2006”.
“The presenters specifically tailored their workshops to inform and provide teachers with learning experiences and resources they can apply to their own classroom and workplaces,” said Ray. “The day was both informative and relevant”.
Teacher Talk 2006 was an initiative of Education Queensland (Mackay-Whitsunday Region) and Central Queensland University (CQU) Mackay.
Special thanks go to Richard Smith, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Education, Cecily Knight, Sub-Dean with Arts, Humanities and Education, and Linda Boyle, representative of Education Queensland for Mackay-Whitsunday region, who gave keynote addresses.
