Thousands roll up to careers expo

Several thousand school students, parents and others interested in new careers gathered at the Community Sports Centre on Tuesday.

About 40 exhibitors including Queensland universities, training organisations, apprenticeship bodies, nanny schools and TAFE took part in the event. Exhibitors gave advice on career paths and further study options.

Career Expo coordinator and Central Queensland University Recruitment Officer Tony Gubbins said this year’s expo was very successful for the visitors and exhibitors.

“Several thousand people took advantage of the opportunity to see such a cross-section of career-based organisations under the one roof,” Mr Gubbins said.

“I believe we have provided a comprehensive display of career and study options for both high school leavers and mature persons.” Formerly at the showgrounds, the Rockhampton Careers Expo was this year moved to the Community Sports Complex at CQU.

“This was a new venue to previous years and I think it wprked extremely well undercover in the sports complex.”
