Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Hovenga busy at international medical informatics forums 

CQU's Professor Evelyn Hovenga recently returned from San Francisco where she attended the International Medical Informatics Association Board and General Assembly, the IMIA Nursing Informatics, and the IMIA Education working group meetings, the Medinfo2004 international conference and the ISO TC215 meetings as a member of the Australian delegation.

"In between I also attended meetings and social functions with health informatics leaders, the American MedicalInformatics Association (AMIA), the IMIA Medinfo steering committee, the IMIA senior officers club and the AMIA nursing informatics group," she said.

Another highlight was the launch of a book that Professor Hovenga has co-edited: 'Global Health Informatics Education'.

Professor Hovenga said another highlight was "being handed the gavel from the Chair of the Medinfo 2004 organising committee as I will chair the Medinfo2007 in Brisbane".

The CQU academic also attended a presentation by the founder of Medical Informatics Dr Francois Gremy, a mathematician, physicist, medical practitioner and informatician.
