CQU Mackay looking for more mentors

CQU Mackay campus will hold a barbecue outside the library next Tuesday, August 29, to provide information and urge potential student mentors to apply for the mentoring positions that are available.

Mentor organisers Katrina Richmond and Julie Godden say it's not too late for interested students to come along and learn more about the mentor program.

Ms Richmond says about 20 applications have been received so far from students interested in becoming a mentor.

"We're doing pretty well with the interest we have so far, but we'd like to have a pool of about 40 studetns to appoint 35 mentors," she said.

The program gives students specific training in the area of mentoring which will appear on their transcripts upon graduating and all mentors receive certificates at the end of the year during a presentation night when a 'Mentor of the Year' prize is given.

So, for students out there who have often thought of it, but not quite gotten to the application stage, come along on Tuesday from 12.30pm to hear more about the Student Mentor program.
