Noosa students involved with 'Floating Land' green art program

Our first-year Learning Management (education) students based at Noosa Campus have been busy with their final assessment task for the 'arts' course, incorporating key community events.

Four groups have staged performances and have led school workshops as of the regional 'Floating Land' event.

Lecturer Dr Susan Davis says Floating Land is a green art program that includes sculpture and art installations presented at Boreen Point, Cooroy and Coolum.

"This year the theme is 'Water Culture' and our students explored different aspects of this theme including uses of water in the past, boating history (including shipwrecks), underwater culture and beach culture," Dr Davis said.

"They enjoyed the experience of having this authentic context for their assessment and working with children.  A range of engaging art activities were organised, including creating trioramas of underwater worlds and zentangle flags.

"Another group was also involved in Peregian Beach Under 8's day and created a performance especially for the 5-8 year olds about a wombat who'd lost his way."
